Insert Foot in Mouth!

I received an email from the DLSU-Dasmariñas Alumni Association asking help for our fellow alumni whose child needs a medical procedure. Lakam Gaizarhea F. Peñas, daughter of DLSU-D alumnus and scholar Noland Peñas, has biliary atresia and needs treatment immediately. Treatment usually consists of a liver transplant as soon as possible, and unfortunately is not yet available in the Philippines. Some of the procedures on biliary atresia were performed in Taiwan and the United States. The procedure is also quite expensive–a family would have to shell out Php3-5 million.

Noland belongs to the second generation of the Sumilao farmers who have long battled for their own land and have recently been given justice, finally. Let’s make their victory in justice even sweeter by letting Lakam live to see her family’s land.

Apart from the letter sent out by DLSAA, Noland’s former classmates at DLSU-D are organizing a raffle promo, the proceeds of which will go to Lakam’s treatment. They are appealing for prize sponsors and raffle ticket distributors. Donations are also very, very much welcome.
